I’m not one for faux grandeur, and the most recent watch I’ve bought is this:

For less than £30 all in it’s a well designed, simple and good looking timepiece. Happily, it keeps time well too. Otherwise I’d say go for a classic Casio. Unfortunately all of my watches fall into either less than £30 or more than ££££ categories, I don’t have anything particularly representative of your top budget.

Well this Casio looks like a much more expensive watch, it’s $115. I like a basic Wenger for my daily watches, although I never really wear one anymore.

Based on that image your budget is off by a factor of 100. With that said, Seiko, Timex, Swatch are probably your go to watches in that range. Maybe Nixon too.

Get a Seiko 5. It’s mechanical so you get mad props from watch people and you’ll never need batteries.

I’ll offer my opinion. Don’t get the Akribos. Like Sturhling and Invicta, it is a brand that they will put with a big price and a steep discount, making you think that you are getting an awesome deal when honestly the watch isn’t worth it. Granted, Invicta has gotten better as time has gone on, but Akribos was considered a mushroom brand when they first came out and to me are still one. The quality just isn’t there yet, especially with the automatic. If $100 is your budget, then maybe look into a Fossil, Skagen, Kenneth Cole, Casio, etc. Again, just my opinion, but I don’t like seeing somebody get what they think is a good watch only to have it break in less than a year.

That thing is really offensive looking. In the nicest of ways of course. Skeleton watches are not a good look. Try one of the more subtle watches from the same brand, or the Stuhrling “homages”.

Nothing wrong with that and not knocking you for it. If it’s lasted that long, then that’s great! Automatics can just be tricky. There’s a few Chinese movements that are great (Sea-Gull imo but Party-vi will disagree I think) and there are some that don’t hold up. I’m not sure what Akribos uses, so may want to research it a little. I’m a watch dork (own 17 right now) so I just like to help others out.

yea when i googled them they are assembled in hong kong and made with swiss stuff.

my problem is that im really skinny so i have to get my band fitted to my wrist

At your price point I would probably go quartz since any mechanical at that price is not going to be very durable or accurate. You can also try Jomashop as they are a reputable grey market dealer so you’ll get some great discounts on some watches that may have originally been out of your budget.

Have you tried looking at eBay auctions for vintage watches? You can usually find a nice Bulova automatic that is working for $100. After a quick search I found about 260 listings for ‘60s-’70s sub-$100 Bulova watches, like this nice piece , or this one .

Bought a Breed watch with Seiko/Pulsar made movement for under $50. Keeps excellent time, crystal scratches easily and the timer movement jams up. Funny thing is any geek who sees it wants to check it out. However when I wear my $85 Invicta automatic diver with exhibition back, nobody pays any attention to it. Its perfect, no scratches but original band failed in 4 months, replaced with NATO strap. Five years old now no issues.

Look at a Timex Weekender. Best watch under $100. I like Invictas too for that price point. Get an automatic if you can. Chances are if you are spending $100 you don’t care about movement (like myself). I have an automatic mall watch that I’ve had for five years and it’s still ticking.
